Traditionally in most cultures, young girls are expected to have a standard education with some work experience then get married and have children.

Fairy tales often romanticize prince charming as the saviour in the rescue of the helpless princess.
A boy shall be unemotional and concur obstacles that are blocking his way.

In fact, these gender myths are constructed by people to dictate our lives.

‘You are Full of Life’ is a children’s lullaby that has a theme of gender inequality.

Lyric and Music by: Shirley Sio and Emily Best Sing by: Emily Best Music Production: Instruments of Change

It is a song about how all lives are beautiful in addition to how unique it is! All children are born with unlimited love and creations, there shall not be a limitation from development that is forced by tradition and modern political ideologies dilemma.  Nevertheless, all children have the ability to build their own awareness and recognition of their life journey.  At the end of the day, we all have different perspectives of a story based on our own life experiences. However, this is the children’s song!

Children shall be guided to walk through the darkness without using violence to harm others and also themselves.  From darkness, they will learn how to search for light and hope.  Through the lights, they are able to meet creations.  From their creations, they are able to know who they truly are. Moreover, It is our children’s future and we should make them confident to be successful and fearless.

The bridge of this song was written when I was 9 months pregnant. The music and lyric escalated to a completion piece with Emily Best after exiting from an abusive marriage.  My daughter was 4 months old.

This lullaby is dedicated to every child in the world and to, particularly my daughter- Alisha.

I hope this children’s lullaby sends love and positivity to motherhood and fatherhood:

Wild Flowers Red Purple Yellow and White.

Carved out the mountains and river lines.

Rolling hills kiss a baby blue sky,

Sunshine light clouds flowing by.

You are the garden full of life,

Breathing in the daylight,

When the sky turns black as a dark,

You are the stars still burning bright.

Alisha (replace your baby’s name) baby, don’t you cry,

Alisha (replace your baby’s name), close your eyes,

MaMa will sing you lullaby,

My little angel closes your eyes.

Listen to the rain following on the ground.

If it makes you sad, remember that sound.

Washing us clean it gives music to our dreams,

Bringing all the colours to the trees and leaves.

Alisha (replace your baby’s name) baby, don’t you cry,

Alisha (replace your baby’s name) baby, close your eyes,

MaMa will sing you lullaby,

My little angel closes your eyes.

From the water edges to the bottom of the sea.

Under sky, honey you are free.

You are the trees, you are the ocean breeze.

Let the rain wash away all your tears.

Alisha (replace your baby’s name) baby, don’t you cry,

Alisha ( replace your baby’s name) baby, close your eyes,

MaMa will sing you lullaby,

My little angel closes your eyes.

Alisha, there’s no need cry,

The stars will lead you through the dark,

The sun warms up your heart.

My little angel closes your eyes.

My little angel closes your eyes.
